Industrial Designs are considered to be objects with aesthetic properties that can be used in Industry.
Patterns for the manufacture of industrial products, shapes of articles applied to other articles and, in general, work of craftsmanship that is appealing to the eye in terms of aesthetics, and can be used or sold in industry, may be eligible to be protected under the IP right of Industrial Designs.
Cyprus is a member to the Locarno Agreement and the International Classification of Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification System), which is used in Cyprus, under which designs are categorized into 32 classes and 233 subclasses.
Exclusive Rights & their Limitation
Only applicants that are citizens in the Republic of Cyprus, or in a Country Member State of the European Union, or have place of business in Cyprus or in EU; are entitled to apply for the registration of an Industrial Design in Cyprus.
Registered Community Designs (RCD)
As with Community Trademarks, the registration of a Community Design grants to its proprietor a uniform right to validate in all Member States of the European Union by means of one procedural system.
